This Norman castle dates back to 1228 when it was founded by the de Burgo family, who lived in their legacy until they lost their home in a battle in 1589  to Lord Ingham governor of Connaught. Since then the Castle has been owned by several, namely the Guinness Family and has welcomed many famous and wealthy individuals such as former US President, Ronald Regan and Prince of Wales, George V.
