Fort Wayne, Indiana, the city of churches

With more than 360 churches within Fort Wayne’s city limits, it is understandable why the city is dubbed as the city of churches since the late 19th century. But the city is not all about churches, its numerous attractions and festivals will appeal to all types of travelers.

The seat of Allen Country in Indiana, Fort Wayne was incorporated as a city in 1840. It was built by the United State Army in 1749 and was named after Anthony Wayne, an American Revolutionary War statesman. Since the late 19th century, Fort Wayne is the hub for number religious originations which is why it has more than 360 churches.  It is also referred to as the Summit City because it is located at the highest point above sea level along the Wabash and Erie Canal route, and the magnet capital of the world because George Jacobs, the founder of the U.S. magnet wire industry, developed his products in Fort Wayne. Although Fort Wayne can be reached by bus, car, or train from various points in the country, or you can fly into Fort Wayne International Airport, located about 9 miles from the heart of the city. It is served by American Airlines, Delta, and United.

You can visit as many churches as you can in Fort Wayne. There are more than 40 religious organizations that have churches in the city. Aside from visiting churches, it has a number of attractions you must visit including Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, Salomon Farm Park, Castle Gallery, Fort Wayne Trails, Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum, Fort Wayne Aviation Museum, African-American Historical Museum, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Parkview Field, Allen County Public Library, Science Central, and the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory.
