The Rhône-Alpes region of France is known far and wide for its stunning panoramic views, traditional markets, and gastronomical wonders, but the true heart of Morzine lies in the wake of the powdered waves of snow as you brave the slopes of Avoriaz.

Luxury meets adventure at Avoriaz Ski Resort

The temperatures may drop at the Avoriaz Ski Resort, but with the chilly winds comes the perfect environment for a holiday in the mountains. Once viewed as a useless stretch of land, due to its unforgiving climate, Avoriaz was glorified by the impressive chalet, clad in wooden planks that seemed only to be practical during the warmer summer months. Fortunately, the area was perceived differently by a 1960's Olympic gold medalist skier.

Jean Vuarnet studied the snowy peaks on the Avoriaz plateau and saw potential. Soon after came luxurious ski lodges, lifts, and a new-found passion for the area and all the adventures to be experienced. A day on the slopes is only paralleled by a cozy evening by a fire, a horse-driven carriage ride, some leisure time in the spa or enjoying a spectacular meal in a fine restaurant.

Nestled in the center of the Portes du Soleil, the slopes veer off into a number of new and thrilling directions. Because of weather changes, ski season lasts from December to April. You don't have to leave the kids at home - Avoriaz has play area designed just for little snowbunnies.

As the resort area is small and intimate, you can get anywhere you want to go on foot, but don't forgo the fun of taking a sled ride through the little town. Many people also take to their skis for a little cross-country adventure, even along the quaint avenues around the resort.

The scenery is one of Avoriaz's main attractions. From the far-off mountains to the breathtaking views of Dents Blanches and Dents du Midi, you won't want to step outside without your camera. Photographic opportunities are everywhere.

Avoriaz Ski Resort offers many fun and exciting (or relaxing) activities besides skiing. For example, there is a skating rink, a fitness center, thrill-seeking activities like caving and skydiving, dog sledding, nightclubs, daily entertainment, and so much more.

For more information, visit the Avoriaz Ski Resort website.

Avoriaz has the perfect blend of adventures-meets-luxury, and staying at one of the area's comfortable lodges delivers. With so much to see, do, and enjoy, you just might discover that one visit isn't enough.
