Paris, Banks of the Seine - You gotta go here

You simply have not been to France if you have never been to Paris and the banks of the ever graceful French River – River Seine. The River Seine bank is what one would call a tourist’s paradise. Below is a list of the buildings, landmarks and tourist attractions located there:

  • Notre Dame and the Sainte Chapelle
  • Louvre
  • Palais de l'lnstitut
  •  Les Invalides
  • Place de la Concorde
  • École Militaire
  • La Monnaie (Mint)
  • Grand Palais des Champs Elysées
  • Eiffel Tower and
  • Palais de Chaillo

The Notre Dame and the Sainte Chapelle are classic examples of Gothic construction, Place de la Concorde is a major influence in the construction of European capitals, Marais and Île Saint-Louis are classic ensembles that showcases Parisian construction of the 17th and 18th century…from this list, you can already start to see why not visiting this destination will make you look like a joker rather than a serious tourist.

Paris’ landmarks such as Eiffel tower, important historical buildings such as Louvre and cathedrals such as the Cathedral of Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle can be seen and visited from River Seine. The beautiful boulevards and Haussmann’s squares are all accessible from River Seine. Perhaps this is why Paris is referred to as the ‘River Town’ in some quarters. To further entrench this name is the fact that since the first settlements by the prehistoric Parisii tribes, the river was the main attraction. It facilitated human activities such as defense and economy. The shops and promenades were for economic gains while the fortresses were for the defense.

Paris is divided into two distinct parts. Upstream River Seine, you will find the port and river transport as well as a lot of commercial activities whereas downstream you will find the royal and aristocratic Paris. The Downstream part where the aristocrats stay was the one selected as a World Heritage Site. By just being here, you will feel the strong hand of the government through the beautiful construction and serious legislation put in place to conserve the area.

There are probably millions of pages written about Paris. Hopefully blog has pointed you to the very first places you should visit when in Paris.
