Top Adventure attractions in Turkey

During the Ottoman Turks reign, Turkey annexed a lot of former Greek territory and with this came some of the most beautiful tourist destinations. The fact that the country sits at the heart of the European-Asian melting point makes it one of the most toured countries in the world. It is the place to be to experience the best of Middle East Arab culture, Eastern Europe Baltic Culture as well as the Western Europe Culture.

It is no wonder then that the country is home to some of the greatest adventure destinations in the world. Below is a highlight of some of these.

1. Cappadocia

This is a lunar-like ancient city that used to build its houses in the underground. In fact, it is the largest subterranean city in the world - one that will keep you excited during the whole tour. You will be amazed at how advanced the architects of the past were.

2. Aspendos Theatre

This was built in 155 AD during the rule of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and had a sitting capacity of 15000 - 20,000 spectators. It is where major political events as well as gladiator fights were held. Today, you will marvel at the ingenuity of the ancient Romans during your exploration of the arena.

3. Pamukkale

Pamukkale is Turkish for 'cotton castle'. Sometimes I think that nature is just showing off...case in point...the Pamukkale. These are naturally formed terraces with pools of water and over a sedimentary rock. People have bathed in these pools for centuries. Perhaps it is your turn to bath where your fore fathers bathed.

4. Mount Nemrut

This is a 2,134 meter (7,001 ft.) high mountain located near the city of Adiyaman. The mountain is popular mostly due to the works of King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene who in 62 BC built a tomb sanctuary that also feature statutes of himself, two eagles and two lions as well as a host of Persian and Greek gods. In short, you will be treading where emperors had tread.

5. Ölüdeniz

This is undoubtedly the most beautiful place in Turkey. It is a small village that is located on a lagoon off the west coast of the Aegean Sea. The turquoise crystal clear water is as enticing as any waters can be. The secluded beach is the most photographed in the world and is popular with honeymooners.

Turkey is a cultural melting pot. It is more of a cultural adventure center than safari adventure center. Trust me; you will enjoy your time in this country.
