The republic of Seychelles is a country located in an archipelago of Indian Ocean consisting of 115 islands about 932 miles from the mainland of southeast Africa. The country's nearest neighbors are the island countries of Zanzibar to the west, Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agaléga and Réunion to the south, and Comoros and Mayotte to the southwest.
Seychelles has some of the world's whitest beaches that get the sand from the coral reef limestone in the Indian Ocean. Below are some things that will give you an overview of the country.
1. Climate
Seychelles is located just a few latitudes from the equator and thus boasts a tropical climate that is characterized with light showers and year round sun. Its temperature averages 24°C to 32°C throughout the year making the country a year round destination.
2. Getting to the Island
Seychelles is served by a number of international airlines including Emirates (6 flights weekly), Etihad (4 flights weekly), Ethiopian (3 flights weekly), Air France among many more. You can also get to the island by boarding a cruise ship.
3. Snorkeling, swimming, and sailing are the major tourist activities
Beaches such as Anse Major, Morne Seychellois National Park, Praslin and La Digue are home to some of the most exotic wildlife. If I were you, I would either come with my own snorkeling gear or with enough money to hire some. For those who love sailing, there are boats on hire.
4. Shopping
Whether you are looking for foodstuffs such as tropical fruit juices or some locally brewed beer such as Seybrew, Eku and Guinness, the retail outlets and shopping malls of Seychelles stocks the top shelf brands. Other things you can buy include clothing, swimming gear, and local souvenirs.
5. Watch the birds
On 40 of Seychelles islands are more than 1 million species of birds. To add to this diversity are the migratory birds from Europe which take a rest in Seychelles before continuing further south as they escape the winters of the northern hemisphere. You will get to see birds such as magpie robins, foodies and blue pigeon.
If not for any other reason, visit Seychelles for its climate. As the temperature fails to minus zero in your country, Seychelles will hold a steady 24 degrees Celsius throughout the year. The country is a stable democracy and one of the most developed countries in Africa.
