A symbols of passion and romance that will make your swoon with melancholic emotions, the Ruins in Talisay, Philippines will fill your senses with love as you take the tour of the area. Not as grandiose as the Taj Mahal, the Ruins will captivate your romantic soul with an everlasting love.
Located in the city of Talisay, a part of Metro Bacolod in the province of Negros occidental, the Ruins has become an icon and a symbol of the city. The city covers a total area of 77.68 square miles and has more than a hundred thousand inhabitants. Up to the 1980s, the province’s economy depended entirely on the sugar industry but it has since diversified to prawn farming, high-value crops, livestock and the tourism industry. Once the enclave of Negros Occidental’s sugar barons, Talisay best represents the glorious past of the province and what it represents today, a dynamic and progressive city. There are so many attractions that you can enjoy in Talisay but the Ruins tells a love story that will touch the hearts of travelers. The fastest way to get into Talisay is via the Bacolod–Silay International Airport, located 11 kilometer from the Ruins.
Built by the sugar baron, Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson in the early 1900’s. It was the largest structure in Talisay at that time and was furnished with the best furniture, exquisite chinaware, and elegant decorative items. A 4-tiered fountain fronting the mansion brought from abroad, welcomed its guests. It stood in all its glory until World War II, when it was burnt by the US forces and the guerillas to prevent the Japanese from using the mansion as a headquarters. It took days for the mansion to be razed to the ground but its main structure remained. Today, the Ruins is nestled among vast tracks of sugar cane fields, and symbolizes the love between Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson and his first wife, Maria Braga, a Potuguese from Macau. Aside from a tour of the mansion which explains the history of the mansion in-depth, you can explore its nooks and crannies, walk through its gardens, and listen to music being played in the afternoons. Visiting the Ruins provides travelers the opportunity to relax, take great pictures, learn more about the locals, and fall in love with a story that has captured the hearts of its visitors.
